Randy Moss, known as one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history, attended a graduation ceremony this past Friday at Pelican Rapids High School to hand off a diploma to a close friend he met during his rookie season in Minnesota.
The receiver in this case was Kassi Spier, who first met Moss at the Viking’s training camp in 1998 where she reportedly joined him for lunch everyday with “her tiny hand inside tucked inside his.”
Spier has faced many battles in her short life. She battled Leukemia in her youth, lost her father in a car accident in 2004, and was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2013. Moss wasn’t going to miss the chance to celebrate her graduation.
Deb Wanek, the Pelican Rapids Public School District Superintendent, had this to say: “She’s had many struggles in her life, and he’s been there for her,” Wanek said. “He told her he’d be at her high school graduation.”
Moss has intentionally kept his relationship with Spier out of the media, turning down countless requests to indulge reporters over the years.
There was one story by The St. Paul Pioneer Press which described a visit Moss made to Spier after her leukemia diagnosis. 4 years old at the time, Spier told them “He cried because he didn’t want to leave,”.
What a guy!
