So last week we published an article on 14 reasons why being a stay at home is a job. The overwhelming opinion was that it was indeed a job. However, there were a few who held strong to their belief that being a stay at home mom was not a job and that’s okay too. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. So, in the spirit of fairness; here are 5 reasons why being a SAHM is not a job.
1. We can never call in sick
Oh, how I wish there were days where I could just pick up the phone and say: “I’m not going to make it in today.” That would be such a nice reprieve.
2. We don’t EVER get paid vacation
What’s that you say? Two weeks paid vacation? Yes, please! Where do I sign up? A warm beach and umbrella-laden cocktail would be nice.
3. There is no such thing as a corporate ladder
Room for advancement? Not so much. Although, I suppose we do move up from “dirty diaper duty” to “temper tantrum control”. So, there is always that.
4. There is no such thing as harassment or discrimination
If I had a nickle for every time I’ve dealt with a sassy or mean comment. I’d be rich. Not to mention the number of times I’ve been walked in on while using the bathroom or shower.
5. We don’t collect overtime or hazard pay
Those sharp toys, loud instruments, flying objects and projectile bodily fluids are just part of the job. There is no extra pay for the arsenal of dangers that we face daily. And it does not matter what time of the day or night said bodily fluids decide to project themselves.
