Today, let’s talk about education. One of the greatest things about the Internet is that you can pretty much learn anything you want in an unbundled environment, meaning you don’t have to take English 101 to learn about computer programming.
So, regardless of your current education level, you can further your education by taking new courses or subscribing to RSS feeds or watching videos on YouTube. The possibilities are endless. Just decide what you want to learn and go do it.
With that said, today we are going to talk about something very valuable. And by valuable, I mean not only from a monetary savings standpoint, but also from a business education perspective. Today, I will show you how to get a crash course in your MBA.
For those of you who don’t know what an MBA is, it’s a degree called Master of Business Administration that takes on average 2 years to complete.
The average MBA from the top business schools are going to cost you well over $100,000 in fees and tuition, but that’s not how we roll. We want to harness the power of the Internet and use that in conjunction with our philosophy of: “Small Changes for Big Results”.
Ok, let’s get started.
If you have never heard of Fred Wilson, don’t fret. Many people haven’t, but Fred is a very smart guy and a New York City-based venture capitalist. Feel free to do some research on Fred or listen to some of his talks on YouTube. It’s well worth your time.
Fred has a blog where he writes about all sorts of things, but the one of most interest to us today is called MBA Mondays.
On his blog are 190 posts of key business lessons. Now, keep in mind that this not some college course, this is real world business knowledge from one of the most successful business people around.
Even better are all the comments, questions and interactions from other very smart people that you can find in the comments of his posts.
So, our challenge is to take 30 minutes each day and read through two posts. I don’t care where you find the time. You can either get up 30 minutes earlier or stay up 30 minutes later or better yet, skip one useless TV show that provides no actual value. The important part is that you find the time.
So let’s look at how this small change can impact your life.
If you spend 30 minutes each day, in roughly 3 months you will have consumed a crash course in MBA, saved yourself $100,000(estimated tuition & fees) in hard earned cash and saved over 2 years (the average time it takes at business school) of your life.
That is hard to believe, but it is true. Simply by finding an extra 30 minutes you gave yourself a valuable education and saved almost $1,110/day in educational costs.
Now, I am sure that there are those of you that will argue that reading some blog posts on the Internet is not the same as going to business school or the like. And while that is true, you are missing the point.
The point is that you have the power to change your life for the better in as little as 30 minutes a day. You have the ability to learn anything you want and the power to change your life is literally right in front of you.
So, what are you waiting for? I assure you that missing a season of some reality TV show is not going to have a negative impact on your life!
However, failing to action today, just might!
