This is so sad.
Father, Herbert George Landell, 26, and Mother, Lauren Heather Fristed, 25, are currently in Gwinnet County Jail for murdering their 10 week-old baby girl with diluted breast milk.
The couple were arrested earlier on this month after rushing their already dead baby to the emergency room. The death was caused by water intoxication.
Babies under 6 months are not meant to drink water because it doesn’t contain any nutritional value. The watered down breast milk forced the baby’s electrolyte and sodium levels to drop, causing her brain to swell.
Watering down breast milk, also known as formula stretching, can cause problems with behavior, memory, and judgement.
A study done in 2011 by Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center showed that more than a quarter of families in poverty reported watering down formula or reducing feedings to their baby.
Landell (father) has been charged with felony murder and aggravated battery by depriving.
Fristed (mother) has been charged with aggravated battery by depriving, first degree cruelty to children, and second degree cruelty to children.
Is it possible that this was a fatal mistake these parents are going to have to live with for the rest of their life?
